INNER SANCTUM by Kay Kalousek

“… true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”   John 4:23 (NLT)
 “Please give me a drink.”
It was a simple, yet surprising request that Jesus made to the Samaritan woman.  Jews didn’t talk to Samaritans and accepting a drink of water from one was almost unheard of.  However, the request was certainly a conversation starter and the woman couldn’t help but be drawn in.
Jesus talked to her about the “living water” that he could give to her and how this water wells up inside giving eternal life.  The woman could see that Jesus was something special and clearly she wanted this living water.  However, she tried to get Jesus to make a pronouncement concerning the ongoing controversy between the Jews and the Samaritans about where one could worship God.  Jesus was offering living water and she was focused on technicalities and rules!
But Jesus saw through all this and instead of engaging in a pointless theological/socio-political discussion, He gave the woman what she really needed to know about worship, “true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”
The best part of the story is that Jesus had already offered to the woman, and offers to us now, the “living water” of his love and grace.  When we accept His gift, all the essentials needed to make our worship pleasing to God have been given to us by Him!
We don’t need to over-think or add a “yeah, but” to this concept.  We just need to accept that our connection and communication to God is a spiritual mystery--one that He facilitates.
So that’s how we are to worship God—in spirit and in truth because we have taken the living water of Jesus Christ!
Need a drink?
K.K.
Think about it:   Am I “scheduling in” my worship time or am I living a life of continuous worship to God?
